Decoratable Watch Party Rooms
Mzelo rooms aren't throwaway sessions — they're persistent spaces you can decorate, rename, and reuse for every movie night. Turn on Decor Mode, set a custom URL, add a profile picture, and the room becomes your group's recurring hangout.
How to decorate your room
Every room on Mzelo can be customized on two layers:
- Identity layer (visible to everyone in the lobby and "Your Rooms" list):
- Custom URL title — pick something memorable like
moon, so your room lives at mzelo.com/app/rooms/moon. Leave it blank for an auto-generated code.
- Room name — the title shown in the lobby.
- Room description — a short summary. Note: when a YouTube or web player video is playing, the description is temporarily replaced by what's currently playing.
- Room profile picture — the visual identity of the room.
- Decor layer:
- Toggle Decor Mode in Room Settings to personalize the inside of the room itself.
- Decor renders on the desktop web app. Mobile web and Android users see the standard layout.
Both layers can be edited any time from the room profile button inside the room.
Why decoratable rooms matter
- Identity for recurring groups. A named, decorated room feels like a clubhouse, not a meeting link. That alone increases attendance for weekly movie nights.
- Memorable URLs. A custom URL like
mzelo.com/app/rooms/friday-night is easier to share than a random hash.
- Better lobby presence. If the room is public, your name, description, and picture all surface in the public rooms list — useful for building a small community around an interest.
- Persistent settings. Rooms never expire. Your decor and customization stay ready for next time.
Privacy & room settings you'll usually pair with decor
- Public vs Private: Private rooms stay off the public lobby list.
- Lock: Only Kings can join a locked room. Useful for recurring friend groups.
- Deny Guests: Forces all joiners to sign in with a real account.
- Default role: Set whether new joiners arrive as a King, Queen, Bishop, Knight, or Pawn.
Best-fit use cases
- Weekly friend movie nights with their own "house" room.
- Anime clubs with a themed room identity.
- Small Discord-adjacent communities running recurring events.
- Long-distance couples or family groups.
