Why no-signup flows win for casual events
- Spontaneous plans: "Movie in 10 minutes?" works when joining takes 10 seconds.
- Mixed-tech groups: Some friends hate signing up for yet another app. They can still join.
- Large communities: Drop-in events scale better when there's no friction at the door.
- One-time hangouts: For a single night you may not want to convince everyone to register.
Guest vs registered — what's the difference?
- Both can: join rooms, use text chat, use emojis, flying emojis, and GIFs, turn on mic/camera, and watch every mode.
- Only registered accounts can: share images and files (upload, paste, direct-link embed), send friend requests, use DMs, and keep a persistent identity.
- Guest caveat: guests can theoretically bypass bans by switching accounts and IPs, so for sensitive rooms host can enable "Deny Guests".
How to run a no-signup event
- Create the room with a custom URL like mzelo.com/app/rooms/movie-night.
- Set a clear room name + profile picture so people landing in the lobby know they're in the right place.
- Share the link in your group chat, Discord, or Instagram story.
- Pick a watch mode and start. Use Movie Night Mode to hide UI and focus on the content.
Tip for moderation: Because guests are easy to create, don't rely on bans alone for troublesome users. Combine Lock (Kings only can join) + Deny Guests for the strongest access control. Promote trusted friends to King before locking.
